SUMMARY:Citizens’ assembly: Practices, visions, and possible futures
DESCRIPTION:Citizens' assemblies, where randomly selected citizens deliberate on major political issues and generate policy recommendations, are one of today's most exciting democratic innovations. They build trust in citizens' judgment, foster inclusive deliberation, and amplify neglected perspectives. Yet challenges remain: limited political influence, a bias toward consensus, and unequal participation rates among different social groups. So how can citizens' assemblies evolve to live up to their promise? Join this workshop to find out: Program highlights: Talk by Prof Graham Smith (London), Azucena Moran (Potsdam), Dr Melisa Ross (Bremen) and Prof Manon Westphal (Munich) In this workshop, the Democratic Innovations Lab brings together leading scholars to dig into exactly these questions, examining current practices and charting paths forward for stronger democratic participation and resilience.
