LOCATION:Mühlenfoyer der Schünemannschen Mühle, Rosenwall 17, 58300 Wolfenbüttel
SUMMARY:‘Together’ – How can we achieve a just transition towards a low-carbon future?
DESCRIPTION:How can climate protection, social justice and democratic participation be considered together? This event, taking place on 27 August 2026 from 6 pm in the Mühlenfoyer at the Schünemannsche Mühle in Wolfenbüttel, is dedicated to this question. The documentary “Zusammen” by Ronja and Niklas von Wurmb-Seibel from 2024 will be screened. The film explores the question of what role citizens’ assemblies and forms of democratic participation can play in developing climate policy solutions. The focus is on the “Klima-Aufbruch Erlangen” Citizens’ Jury, which has jointly developed proposals for a sustainable and just future. Following the film screening, the event offers an opportunity for discussion. Representatives from politics and civil society will discuss how a just climate transition can succeed and what contribution citizen participation can make to this. The focus will be on the opportunities and challenges of democratic participation, as well as on how social cohesion and sustainable change can be linked. After all, sooner or later, climate change will present every local authority with major challenges. Experience from other cities shows that a successful ecological transition requires not only sound political solutions, but also the involvement of local people. Representatives on the panel and in the public dialogue include, BUND Wolfenbüttel, the Green Youth Wolfenbüttel, and the Coordination and Expertise Centre of the Partnership for Democracy in the Wolfenbüttel district. Also taking part are mayoral candidate Lena Krause, district administrator candidate Leo Pröttel, and candidates for the town and local councils and the district council. The discussion will be moderated by Bertold Brücher. “Every local authority can get started – even with limited resources and a lot of headwind,” is the central message of the event. The evening is therefore intended not only to inform, but also to provide a space for concrete ideas, different perspectives and direct dialogue with citizens. ...
