SUMMARY:Everyone on board?! Engaging hard-to-reach target groups in participation processes
DESCRIPTION:“It’s always the same people who show up.” You often hear this phrase when people talk about participatory processes. It seems that opportunities for participation and involvement are often accessible only to—and reserved for—certain segments of the population: the educated, the vocal, and those who have the necessary time. These often highly engaged individuals are undoubtedly important for democracy and social development. However, their contribution alone is not enough. Participatory and engagement processes depend on the involvement of all relevant stakeholders to live up to their claim to democratic legitimacy. But how can this be achieved? How do we manage to include people whom we cannot reach through conventional communication channels and with “standard” offerings? How do we reach those for whom participation does not come “naturally” and who live under conditions that make political participation difficult? What methods can be effectively employed? And how should processes be designed accordingly? These questions are the focus of the online workshop. Participants will discuss and collaboratively develop strategies to reach people who are typically considered “hard to reach” by participation initiatives. The event is aimed at those who design participation, engagement, and collaboration processes. Registration fee: 110 € Register now! ...
