SUMMARY:Let´s shape democracy!
DESCRIPTION:Our democratic model of society is coming under increasing pressure. Representatives of authoritarian movements are attacking our democracy. We must defend our democratic achievements: our freedom of the press, our freedom and personal safety as citizens, our equality before the law, our independent judiciary, our right to freely elect parliaments at local and national level – in short, the values enshrined in our Basic Law! It is important to continually convince all citizens of the benefits of our democracy – or rather, to encourage them to play an active part in shaping our democracy. To this end, democracy must remain vibrant and offer citizens a variety of opportunities for participation. Citizens assemblies, such as those in Aachen and in the German-speaking Community in Belgium, are a means of strengthening trust in democracy. These forms of democratic citizen participation will take centre stage at this cross-border event on 7 November 2026.
