SUMMARY:People in the lead: How citizens´ assemblies are shaping global climate action
DESCRIPTION:The climate crisis isn´t waiting. Neither are people. Across the world, people and communities are already shaping responses to the climate crisis. The Global Citizens´ Assembly connects this growing movement, building collective power and bringing people closer to global decision-making. This session brings together Assembly Members and community organisers from Indonesia, Uganda, Colombia, Brazil and beyond. Their experiences and insights, combined with experts´ knowledge, reveal clear directions for action on food and climate. Hear directly from the people involved, alongside researchers, practitioners and climate leaders exploring what these priorities can contribute to climate action. Representatives from the COP30 and COP31 Presidencies will also respond, considering how they can be carried into the multilateral climate process.Help amplify the collective message being taken to COP31.Some of the people joining this conversation: Ahmad Marzuki, a fisherman from Indonesia, brings first-hand experience of declining catches and displacement and how food, climate and coastal livelihoods are connected.Anna Mbabazi, a dairy farmer from Uganda, took her experience in the Global Assembly back to her community, bringing other farmers together through a community assembly.Abraham Jayariyu, a Wayúu leader from Colombia, brings generations of ancestral knowledge to global climate conversations, asking what it means to be a good ancestor.Kalpana Arias, Climate activist, founder of PLAY, and Community Assembly organiser, on what happens when Londoners get a say in how their city grows food.Laurence Tubiana, CEO of the European Climate Foundation and an architect of the Paris Agreement, and Oliver Escobar, Professor at the University of Edinburgh, will respond to these insights in conversation with Kirsten Dunlop, CEO of EIT Climate-KIC.
