Citizens’ assemblies in Switzerland: Learning from one another, moving forward together
How can democratic innovation be reconciled with our existing institutions? What can we learn from the experience of a citizens’ assembly when it addresses the issue of democratic participation directly?
The last-minute cancellation of the planned Citizens’ Assembly for Democracy in Geneva by the State Council clearly illustrates these areas of tension. On 3 June, Demoscan invites you to analyse this case first-hand and reflect on the challenges and opportunities of integrating deliberative processes in Switzerland.
The programme for this event:
- Exchange of experiences: An insight into the events surrounding the Geneva Citizens’ Assembly, featuring a keynote presentation by Victor Sanchez-Mazas followed by a discussion.
- Strategy 2026+: Presentation of Demoscan’s new strategic areas of focus.
- Collective intelligence: An “Open Space” to explore your own topics in depth and share best practices.
Languages: Discussions in German and French (keynote speech in English).
Participation: Free of charge, courtesy of the Mercator Switzerland Foundation
