Our democracy: threatened - resilient - in need of reform?
Our democracy appears to be facing change and is also being called into question. The participants in this seminar ask themselves whether our democracy is under threat and how it could be improved. What are the reasons for seemingly brutalised manners and increasing willingness to use violence? Which values are important to us in democratic coexistence?
It will be examined how these values are challenged in our everyday lives by militant protests, neo-Nazis, extremists, fake internet and media campaigns, and excessive state control and police violence. To this end, participants will talk to the Office for the Protection of the Constitution, political parties and organisations in Bremen about what they are doing to defend our democratic coexistence and improve it through civil courage and commitment.
Do we want to ‘dare more democracy’ through plebiscites and citizens' assemblies? To this end, democratic competence will be practised in a practical way.
