Sneak Peek: Goodbye Elections. Hello Democracy.
The documentation "Goodbye Elections. Hello Democracy." asks a radical question: What if we replaced politicians and elections with ordinary people - chosen by lottery?
In 2020, as COVID and a bitter election push Michigan toward a breaking point, 30 strangers are chosen by lottery and tasked with doing what politicians couldn't: agree on a pandemic response.
The film follows a handful of these citizen representatives - spanning the political spectrum - as they collide over real values, freedom and compassion, self-reliance and solidarity, and arrive at something none of them expected.
A former Democratic congressman who served 18 years said he didn't want it to end. Independently, a conservative business leader who hosted a Trump campaign event was so moved he wants to host his own screening. Audiences across the political spectrum are consistently brought to tears.
The film is many things, including a love letter to American people, reflecting what their better angels look like.
The film run time is 80 minutes followed by about 30 minutes optional Q&A with director Adam Cronkright and small group discussions.
