Losland Brochure

The LOSLAND project has produced a publication that highlights the potential of sortition-based citizens’ assemblies for democratic culture and the political system in Germany. The LOSLAND municipalities, the LOSLAND team, and all participating project partners agreed: Democracy needs an update, and together we want to start something new.

In this publication, you’ll learn about everything that has gotten underway in the municipalities. Through feature stories, numerous interviews, photos, and contributions from participants, you’ll gain deep insights into the LOSLAND processes on the ground; you’ll find reports on the implementation of the citizens’ assemblies’ recommendations and on new approaches to collaboration. We’ve also put together many useful tips for successful participatory practices, asked the involved stakeholders for their practical recommendations, compiled arguments in favor of citizens’ assemblies, answered frequently asked questions, and much more!

Whether you’re reading this publication as a politician, a committed citizen, or a facilitator for citizens’ assemblies, we promise you one thing: This publication is far more than just a project report! The experiences and insights gained in the LOSLAND municipalities, which we have compiled here, come together to form a mosaic of democratic self-efficacy that is meant to inspire and encourage you—perhaps to take a step yourself toward a future fit for our grandchildren.
