Wayne Liebman and the democratic lottery

For anyone wishing to gain a better understanding of the potential of democratic lotteries, Josh & Ted Wachtel have invited a number of interesting guests to their series of events, “The Lunch Break with Josh & Ted Wachtel”.

In the style of a “talk show”, Josh opens and closes the hour with a song and has a brief chat with Ted before they both introduce their guest.

This series focuses on ‘genuine representation’ – the radical yet sensible idea that ‘we, the people’ can govern ourselves at every level of society.

On 4 November 2026, Wayne Liebman will be the guest. He is a leading advocate of democratic lotteries and deliberative processes. His efforts led to the convening of a Citizens’ Assembly in Petaluma, California, in 2022 to plan the future use of the fairground – the first municipal mini public ever held in California. He is currently campaigning to establish citizens’ assemblies in Los Angeles, where he lives, and to expand the national influence of ‘Sortition USA’.

The ‘studio audience’ will have the opportunity to make comments and ask questions at any time.
